In the latter half of 2001, South Africa destroyed her reserve stocks of Vickers MMG's, some 2250 in total, in both .303 British and the unique South African 7.62 NATO conversion, ending an era of proud service, spanning the First World War to the 1980's, in many theatres, in the hands of South African Servicemen.

Only a handful of these 'Grand Old Ladies' remain preserved in Museums, as Regimental ornaments and in private Collections. This page is dedicated to the memory of this unique Arm with an accent on South African Service
