Although these cartridges have a load number (8) that indicates adoption they are incredibly scarce in any form and are considered experimental cartridges. According to PMP records there was even a model 8 with first improvement (82) as well, but I have yet to see this.

These types of cartridge were never made for the South African market. The ball load has a steel core anyway so the South African Defence Force was happy with that. These loads are both for export after the Arms Embargo fell away.

Armour Piercing Incendiary Hard Core Cartridges

These cartridges should have a silver over yellow tip. However this has only been seen on some photo dummies. Typically they have either a yellow tip or a silver tip. The loading code is “34” but even this is not consistent. Again the only way to tell is by x-raying the cartridge. The penetrator stands out really well on x-ray. Without x-raying a not so reliable method is a magnet. The tungsten carbide penetrator is not as magnetic as the steel core of either the ball round or the normal API round.
